Patient Rights

You have the right to:

  1. Respectful, equitable care
    Receive care that is respectful, inclusive, and free from discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, or socioeconomic status.
  2. Privacy and confidentiality
    Expect your personal health information to be protected under HIPAA and state privacy laws. Your information will not be shared without your permission except when required by law.
  3. Clear information
    Receive understandable explanations about your diagnosis, medications, risks, benefits, alternatives, and treatment plan. You can ask questions at any time.
  4. Participate in your treatment
    Take an active role in your care, including making decisions about medications, therapy recommendations, referrals, and safety planning.
  5. Informed consent
    Give or withhold consent for treatment, including psychiatric medications, telehealth services, and release of records.
  6. Access to your records (possible fees)
    Request a copy of your medical records. Ask for corrections when something is inaccurate.
  7. Know your clinician’s credentials
    Be informed of the credentials, licensure, and role of your psychiatric provider and any supporting staff.
  8. Telehealth protections
    Receive virtual care delivered in a private, secure environment. Be informed if technology issues affect your care.
  9. Safe, ethical care
    Receive care that follows professional practice standards and ethical guidelines. Request a second opinion when appropriate.
  10. Voice concerns or complaints
    Express concerns about your care without retaliation. You can request a change of provider, provide feedback, or file a formal complaint.

Patient Responsibilities

To support effective and safe care, you are expected to:

  1. Provide accurate information
    Share complete and truthful information about your health, symptoms, medications, past treatments, and safety concerns.
  2. Participate actively
    Follow the agreed-upon treatment plan, ask questions when unsure, and communicate changes in your condition.
  3. Attend scheduled appointments
    Show up on time, keep appointments, and follow cancellation guidelines.
  4. Maintain a private, safe telehealth environment
    Join virtual visits from a confidential space. Avoid driving or unsafe situations during sessions.
  5. Use medications responsibly
    Take medications only as prescribed. Report side effects, lost prescriptions, or misuse concerns right away.
  6. Respect staff and practice policies
    Engage respectfully with all NothingBetter Health Group team members. Follow financial policies, technology policies, and practice guidelines.
  7. Emergency planning
    Know how to contact emergency services in your area. Notify your provider immediately if you are experiencing a psychiatric crisis.
